The holiday season reminds us of one of our unique applications of acrylic sheets. 2 years ago when we were exploring the different ways in utilizing the available materials we have in decorating our office, we stumbled upon the use of acrylic sheets in creating a Christmas Tree. To make it more visually appealing and creative, we decided to paint its surface. To this we realized that it can be challenging, if you are not familiar with the material. In this article, we’ll share some foolproof tricks and tips to ensure a stress free decorating experience.

How to Paint Acrylic Sheets Seamlessly?

  • Prep the Surface

This step is crucial not only in ensuring that the paint adheres properly into the material,  but also in keeping the area clean and free from dust and grimes that may ruin the look of the results. Clean the material using nontoxic cleaning agents, wiping away dust with clean cloth, ensuring a dry surface after. These adjustments, although tiny, can bring either good or bad results.

  • Painting

Painting an acrylic sheet follows the same procedures as you do with other surfaces: start with a primer for strong adhesion, building up the color through thin layers for strong, vivid colors. It is recommended to use acrylic paints for best results. Adding texture is possible with the use of brushes, sponges, or rags. If the aim is to create smooth lines or create a solid background, rollers can be used.

  • Aftercare

To ensure the material’s long term use, it is recommended to apply a protective coat after painting. Not only does it look glazed and glossy, it also keeps the bright colors in play. To clean the material, avoid using harsh chemicals like acetone, ammonia, and strong acids. Use clean, damp cloth and immediately wipe it to prevent water spots. For best results, avoid putting pressure on painted surfaces.
